Meet the team

Name: Marc Adams

Role: Sous Chef

Length of time in role: 7- 8 years. I first came to hall as an agency chef, coming down the drive for the first time I was blown away by the beauty of the building I often used to drive past and wonder what it would be like to work in such a grand building. After 6 months or so a permanent position came available in the kitchen so I had to apply. A few years passed and I was promoted to sous chef.

What is your favourite thing about the Hall: Choosing my favourite part of the Hall I find quite tricky as I have a few places that I love here at the Hall, the gardens themselves are beautiful but I’d say my favourite parts of the gardens are the rose garden and the large lake as it’s a really peaceful place to sit and watch the world go by in the sun, inside the hall would be the Saloon, Stuart room and the room in the tower as it still has the original paintings from the hunts that used to happen here when it was a private estate.

What was your favourite subject at school? At school I was quite a practical and hands on person, I struggled with academic lessons but loved subjects like design and technology I feel this being a big reason I chose cooking as a career, since leaving school I've studied and completed 3 NVQ’s in professional cookery and management and the University has opened the door to a management degree which I started in sept 2020 and hope to finish in 2021.

Have you ever organised a big personal or business event? Recently I have been organising and planning my wedding which was supposed to be at the Hall in the rose garden in August this year but unfortunately COVID decided it would have other ideas for us, so we have postponed it to the following year.

Can you tell us some “fun facts” about yourself: I was born and bred in Cambridge but also spent a lot of time in London growing up. My hobbies out of work is mainly gaming, golf and building things. In the last few years I have built a pond and remodelled my garden, learning what I can from the internet and videos online, this year I decided to do the bathroom so have been learning about plumbing and tiling which is much harder than it looks.
